If you have been involved in a road traffic
accident involving an emergency vehicle, then you may be able to make a claim
for compensation, even though you might be partially responsible. As long as
you have not taken full responsibility for the accident and it can be proved
that the other party was liable then you may be entitled to compensation.
Emergency
Vehicle and their Privileges:-
It is understood that emergency vehicles
have certain privileges on the road when they have turned on their emergency
lights and sirens, nonetheless this does not mean the drivers of these vehicles
do not have to comply with the law. When driving in extreme speeds on an
emergency call, these drivers have to follow certain procedures and precautions
to protect those around them. In fact, all road users have a responsibility
towards other road users and emergency vehicle are no exception.
For example, if it has been discovered that
the driver of the emergency vehicle violated a traffic signal or was travelling
on the wrong side of the road without flashing emergency lights or sounding the
emergency siren then this will be considered as negligence and in the event of
an accident with another vehicle, the driver of other vehicle will be eligible
for making a road traffic accident claim.
